Phone Hacking Police Arrest Two Former NHS Employees In Bridgwater

Two former NHS employees have been arrested by detectives investigating allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials.

Police said the arrests of a 42-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man in Bridgwater, Somerset on Thursday morning were by officers from Operation Elveden, which is running in conjunction to Operation Weeting.

It comes after a separate arrest of a 26-year-old man who on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice on Thursday morning, as part of Operation Weeting.

"Today's arrests are the result of information provided to police by News Corporation's Management Standards Committee. It relates to suspected payments to public officials and is not about seeking journalists to reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been obtained legitimately," the Met said in a statement.

Three people, including a retired Mirror journalist and a prison worker, were arrested and bailed on Wednesday in relation to Operation Elveden.
