Olympic Bronze Medallist Jonny Brownlee Sees Biggest Boost On Twitter After Brother's Win

Jonny Brownlee Has Revenge Over Gold-Winning Brother On Twitter

Triathalon gold medalist Alastair Brownlee may have between his brother Jonny in the Olympic swim, bike and run yesterday - but his brother had his revenge.

On Twitter.

Bronze medallist Jonny destroyed Alastair on the social network, increasing his followers total by 71% to around 30,000, compared to just 49% by his brother.

Admittedly Alastair Brownlee still has more followers overall - around 43,000 - but hopefully the figures will come as a boost to the losing brother, whose chances for a win were snatched away when he suffered a 15 second penalty.

Social media marketing company Wildfire, recently bought by Google for £159m, has been tracking Team GB athletes and the effect that winning medals - or not - has on their online profile.

Elsewhere in Team GB, Chris Hoy saw his latest gold medal result in another boost to his Facebook profile (up 43% in 24 hours), as did Victoria Pendleton (up 19%).

High jumper Robbie Grabarz also saw his profile jump, with a 1646% increase in Facebook likes and a 53% increase in Twitter followers, to more than 6,000.

Unfortunately for triple jumper Phillips Idowu, who failed to reach the final, things were not so pretty. He added just an additional 1% of Facebook likes, and 6% in Twitter followers.

Check back later in the week for the latest social media stats.
