Iconic nineties film Total Recall has just had a remake, with director Len Wiseman swapping tough-man Arnold Schwarzenegger for Colin Farrell as Douglas Quaid.
The futuristic setting has also been ramped-up by removing some of the more fantastical elements of 1990 film. For example, the Martian colonies and dormant alien technology are gone and Wiseman has brought the atmosphere in line with sci-fi thrillers such as Minority Report.
However, fans of the original have not all been pleased with the modern take on the cult hit - one HuffPost blogger called it "a joyless affair".
It seems unlikely it's going to become anyone's favourite remake, but DVD subscription and streaming service LOVEFiLM have polled over 4,500 film fans to uncover the best ever film remakes to watch instead.
Included in their top ten are Ocean’s Eleven, remake of the 1960 Rat Pack film of the same name, Daniel Craig’s brooding performance as reporter Blomkvist in David Fincher’s English version of The Girl with the Dragon and Martin Scorsese’s The Departed.
