Nick Clegg 'Sorry': Autotune Single Of Lib Dem Apology Charts At 143

Where Is Nick Clegg's Musical Apology In The Charts

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg stormed into the official singles chart today in the latest twist to his turbulent career.

A spoof song featuring his apology over his broken tuition fees pledge came in at number 143.

The track - Nick Clegg Says I'm Sorry (The Autotune Remix) - would have been even higher if it had been released earlier in the week than Friday.

Politician to pop star: Nick Clegg's single has made the charts

In the Apple iTunes chart, he had reached the top 40 yesterday.

The song's placing in today's chart comes as he and wife Miriam celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary.

Its showing in the charts is in inverse proportion to his ratings in the polls, which have slumped dramatically during his time in office from their pre-election high.

The track was created by satirical website www.thepoke.co.uk.

Clegg gave permission for the single to be released and all profits will be given to Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, of which Mrs Clegg is a patron.

Clegg made light of the video when he appeared before delegates at the start of the Liberal Democrat autumn conference last night.

"Just when I thought life couldn't get any stranger, a video of me gets remixed and becomes a YouTube sensation," he said.

Asked today what it would mean to him if he got to number one, Clegg appeared stumped for words before saying: "It means today I would have two things to celebrate, because it's also Miriam and mine's 12th wedding anniversary, today."

Meanwhile, The Script held on to their number one slot despite a late challenge from YouTube sensation Psy.

The Script's track, Hall of Fame - which features Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.i.am - is number one for a second week, with Example's Say Nothing going straight in at number two.

The top two songs faced stiff competition from Psy's Gangnam Style which climbed 13 places since midweek to land at Number 3, weeks before its planned UK release date.

Psy is the first South Korean star to make the UK top 10 and the video for the rapper's single has amassed over 253 million views in just two months and has become the most 'liked' video of all time on YouTube.

The Script are still number one, with the collaboration with Will.i.am 'Hall of Fame'

Gangnam Style was the week's highest climber, up 34 places, and closed the gap on The Script throughout the week and at the final whistle was just 15,000 copies away from the top spot.

Canadian chart throb Justin Bieber enjoyed quite a climb, up 14 places to Number 30 with As Long As You Love Me FT Big Sean.

New entries include former N-Dubz star Dappy who entered the chart at number 12 with his single Good Intentions and TOWIE star Jessica Wright who clinched a top 40 debut with her new single Dance All Night going in at 36.

In the albums' chart, The Killer and Pink battled it out for the coveted number one slot with the American band edging it with their album Battle Born selling 94,000 copies - this year's third fastest seller so far.

Pink's The Truth About Love was behind in the number two position with sales of nearly 80,000 copies.

The Script slipped down a place on the albums' chart with #3 ironically in the number three position.

Last week's top album, Coexist by XX, slipped three places down to number four, while Emeli Sande's album Our Version Of Events was a non-mover at number five.

The 25th anniversary edition of Michael Jackson's seminal 1987 album, Bad, debuts at number six.

The album, which spawned nine Top 40 hits between 1987 and 1989, is the UK's ninth biggest selling album of all time.
