Jeremy Forrest, the maths teacher who ran away to France with teenager Megan Stammers, was applying for jobs as a barman in Bordeaux when he was arrested on Friday.

Forrest, 30, had left a CV at a number of bars in the city centre. It included a mugshot despite the fact that his picture was circulating widely in the media.

It was his CV that led to his arrest after the manager of a bar called HMS Victory tipped off police when he recognised the fugitive. He arranged for Forrest to come back the next day for an interview, but instead police were waiting for him.

Forrest and Stammers were found in France on Friday

Forrest used the alias 'Jack Francis Dean' and described his interests as writing and performing music. He stated that he had been working for 'HR Admin' from 2008 to 2012 despite the fact that had been working as a teacher at Bishop Bell Church of England School in Eastbourne, East Sussex, where he taught Stammers.

He also lied about his age saying that he was 28.

Forrest and Stammers had been staying in the two star Hotel Choiseul where he had checked in under the name 'Jack Grant'.

The owner of the hotel, Eric Augier told the Mirror: “There was nothing out of the ordinary about them, even if she seemed younger than him.

“They went out in the evening. I don’t know where they went to, probably a local pub or café, or maybe for a meal.”

Forrest is currently being held in the high-security Gradignan Jail in south-west France on suspicion of child abduction while Stammers returned to the UK and her relieved and ecstatic family on Saturday. Forrest is due to be extradited back to the UK in the coming week.
