Can the makers of Little Miss Sunshine pull it off again?
Six years after the breakout success of the deceptively light indie comedy, husband and wife directorial team Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris return with the offbeat romantic comedy Ruby Sparks.
Ruby Sparks - romantic, just not necessarily real...
Calvin (Paul Dano) is a struggling novelist who can’t quite find anything he wants to write. Encouraged by his shrink (Elliott Gould) to start creating his dream girl, Calvin’s reality is upended when Ruby (screenwriter and Dano’s off-screen girlfriend Zoe Kazan) becomes a real person, and they begin to have a beautiful relationship together. If the relationship isn't perfect, all Calvin has to do is simply type the words on the page and Ruby's actions change to what he needs.
The film boasts a catalogue of A-list names, too, including Annette Benning, Elliott Gould and Steve Coogan. It's in UK cinemas from 12 October, but you can have a sneak peek at the HuffPost UK's exclusive clip ABOVE - and the trailer below...
