Man Admits Injecting Baby With Heroin

A Dorset man has admitted injecting heroin into the mouth of his baby after trying to murder its mother with a flare gun and a meat cleaver.

Roger Weir, 45, flipped after finding that his former fiance, Gillian Blackmore, had a new partner, Winchester Crown Court heard.

He told police: "I can't live with the thought of someone else raising my daughter."

The case has been heard at Winchester Crown Court

Weir went to his ex's flat whilst high on a cocktail of drugs and told her "I want you dead". He then fired a specially adapted flare gun at her before beating her with a baton and then a meat cleaver.

Blackmore managed to flee the scene, running from the house naked and covered in blood from injuries to her back and neck.

Weir stayed in the flat and barricaded himself in a bedroom with their 20-month-old daughter.

When police arrived Weir was screaming: "Don’t come in here or I’ll shoot the baby," the court heard.

A police officer eventually talked him out of the room. As police searched him, he said: “I have given the baby heroin, I wanted her to die with me... I wanted her and me dead.”

Weir admitted administering a noxious substance to the child, by injecting heroin into his daughter's mouth. The little girl managed to spit it out and was not harmed.

Weir, who pleaded guilty to attempting to murder Ms Blackmore, will be sentenced on Friday.
