Forest Fans Furious With McLeish Appointment

Nottingham Forest fans have vented their dismay after Alex McLeish was appointed as the club's new manager.

The Scot replaced Sean O'Driscoll a day after his Boxing Day sacking to much dismay, with Forest's supporters complaining about his infamous negativity.

McLeish's Villa were a miserable side to watch

McLeish oversaw Birmingham City's relegation to the Championship in 2011 only to be appointed by Aston Villa, again to much outcry from supporters. The Villans won just seven games and finished 16th in the 2011-12 Premier League and McLeish was hounded out shortly after the campaign finished.

Fifty-three-year-old McLeish did win the League Cup with Birmingham two seasons ago and guided Rangers to the last 16 of the Champions League in 2005-06 but the reaction to his appointment has been as negative as his supposed tactics.

McLeish commented:

“I’ve had time away from the game and now feel refreshed and ready to go. The fact that a club of Forest’s magnitude has offered me a job excites me greatly — it’s a wonderful opportunity. I can’t wait to get started and I’m looking forward to meeting the players, talking to them and taking my first training session.”

O'Driscoll was dismissed with the club lying in eighth and one point off the play-offs but Forest chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi cited McLeish's hunger as to why he brought him to the City Ground.

“Alex took Birmingham to promotion from the Championship and has great experience of working in the Premier League," Al Hasawi said. "He’s hungry for more success and I believe he’s the man who can help us fulfil our ambition of making it to the Premier League.”
