British Tourist Dies After Fall At Australia's Wentworth Falls, Near Sydney

British Tourist Killed Slipping Down Waterfall In Australia's Blue Mountains

A young British tourist has died in Australia after slipping off rocks on top of a waterfall, falling around 100 metres in Wentworth Falls, a popular sightseeing spot.

The BBC said that New South Wales police had confirmed the man was on holiday in the country and had headed to the area from Sydney's Bondi beach for a picnic and a stroll on Sunday lunchtime.

The 20-year-old's body could not immediately be recovered because of strong winds in the Blue Mountains, according to the BBC. A helicopter later helped recover the body at around 8pm.

A police spokeswoman said: "The location is extremely rugged and difficult to access, despite the rescue crew being very experienced."

The Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance to his family.

Wentworth Falls is a three-tiered waterfall, a total of 187m high. The Blue Mountains national park, a world heritage site, is made up of gorges, forests and hanging swamps.
