Oscars 2013: Seth MacFarlane And Emma Stone Announce Nominations

Beasts Of the Southern Wild proved the surprise package of Thursday afternoon’s Oscar nomination ceremony, receiving a nod for Best Picture, while helmer Benh Zeitlin received a nomination for Best Director.

Nine-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis, who stars in the film about a young girl growing up in the ramshackle American community, was nominated as Best Actress, the youngest ever honouree in the category.

Also nominated for Best picture were Argo, Amour, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Lincoln, Life Of Pi, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty.

Announced in Hollywood by actors Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone, Daniel Day Lewis received one of the few British nods, the 55-year-old recognised in the Best Actor category for his turn in Lincoln, while British singer Adele picked up a nomination for Best Original Song for Skyfall.

Bradley Cooper, High Jackman, Joaquin Phoenix and Denzel Washington made up the Best Actor list, while Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Emmanuelle Riva and Naomi Watts completed the list for Best Actress.

The ceremony will take place on the 24 February in Hollywood.
