Book Returned To New York Library 55 Years After It Was Borrowed

Possibly The Most Overdue Library Book Of All Time

There’s honesty, and then there’s madness. Quite where this story falls, we’ll let you decide.

A library in New York was shocked this month when a book was returned to them – 55 years after it was borrowed.

The copy of 'Fire of Francis Xavier' by Francis Xvaier also contained a cheque for $100, presumably to cover the fine it would have accrued since it was taken out in April 1958.

It’s not known who the returner was or why they had a sudden attack on conscience.

One thing that is safe to assume that they found the biography of the 16th century priest ‘a little heavy going’.
