'Coronation Street' star Michael Le Vell has had a strong signal of support from his TV bosses, in the midst of his forthcoming trial for alleged child sexual abuse charges.

Granada executives have told the actor that, contrary to previous reports, they will be happy to welcome him back to the soap if his name is cleared, and that they are planning a major new storyline with him at the centre.

Le Vell has played the street's mechanic Kevin Webster for more than 30 years, but reports surfaced last week that he had been suspended from the show due to his forthcoming appearance in court.

The Mirror reports that his employers were particularly unhappy that this had been suggested and opted to meet with the actor personally to reassure him.

The newspaper quotes a source from the Street, describing Le Vell as really missing "the day-to-day life of being on Corrie".
