A woman who called the police after being kept awake at night by the persistant ringing of her doorbell was shocked to discover that ants were behind the nocturnal noise.

Police called to the 75-year-old's house in Offenburg, Germany soon found the cause of the ringing, reported the Associated Press. A nest built next to the frame had grown so large it was pressing the switching elements together and had to be removed.

Ants aren't the only animals who've known to knock at the door either. Check out this cat who learnt how to ring his very own doorbell.
