Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Egyptian Mohamed Salah from Basel.

Salah, whose transfer is subject to him passing a medical and agreeing personal terms, scored against the Blues in both of Basel's Champions League group stage wins earlier this season.

The Swiss press are reporting the fee for Salah is around £13.5 million.

Liverpool were interested in bringing the 21-year-old to Anfield, but Chelsea have acted decisively ahead of Juan Mata's expected move to Manchester United.

Salah will become Chelsea's second signing of the January transfer window, following Nemanja Matić's £21m return from Benfica.

The Basel academy product has scored six goals in 24 games this season and was named best player in the Swiss Super League for 2013.
