For the first time a female firefighter will grace the pages of the FDNY charity calendar - and, can we add, she looks mighty fabulous.

Danae Mines of Engine Co. 6 in the Bronx, NY is one of only 41 female firefighters in the department.

Danae has proudly become Miss March of The Calendar of Heroes - March is incidentally also women's history month.

"I think it's great, I would love to inspire other women to come onto the job," she says.

The money raised from the calendar will go to the FDNY Foundation, which promotes fire safety education.

This year The Calendar of Heroes celebrates its 150th anniversary, so we think it's about bloody time it included a strong, inspirational woman on its pages.

Danae, we salute you.
