Kylie Minogue is returning to Neighbours 26 years after she hung up her overalls in the Aussie soap playing tomboy mechanic Charlene.

Bonza! (And ageing for all those who remember watching her after school!)

She is expected to appear in an anniversary special in March 2015.

Actress Anne Charleston, who played Charlene's on-screen mum and much-loved Neighbours character Madge Bishop, is reported as saying: "I think Kylie is on board for the special and I imagine everyone will be in on it because it's a big occasion.

"I look on those days with fondness and there is no way in hell I'd walk away from the special because it's a celebration and I think we should all be involved in it."

Kylie's character Charlene left the show in 1988 after two years, while Madge Bishop died peacefully in her husband Harold's arms in 2001 - which might make the writers' job a bit tricky.

The role, which saw Charlene/Kylie marry her on-screen (and later off-screen) lover Jason Donovan/Scott Robinson, catapulted Minogue into a household name.

More than 20 million British TV viewers tuned in to watch their on-screen marriage in 1988 before they both left to pursue music careers with hits factory Stock, Aitken and Waterman.

The singer and actress recently hinted at the developments, tweeting: "So..... I bought overalls today."

Kylie and Donovan were reunited for a version of Especially for You with comic David Walliams in this year's Comic Relief.
