Fashion brand American Apparel has a knack for making headlines. Whether it's shop mannequins with pubic hair or a controversial ad campaign (we're talking THAT 'Made in Bangladesh' one), the company knows how to get noticed.
The latest? The products from the brand that come with a serious warning...
The Gloss has drawn attention to the American Apparel website which warns consumers that certain products on sale are dangerous for their health:
The following products contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
The items exceeded the limit for Lead and Phthalate within requirements in Prop 65 and cannot be sold in California retail stores or online store.
Holy moly, that's hazardous on a serious level. The kind of dangerous that would make most re-think that vinyl backpack purchase.
Check out these five American Apparel products that come complete with a warning:
1. Clear Hat
2. Clear School Bag
3. Juju Babe Jelly Sandals
4. . Vinyl Mini Skirt
5. PVC Circle Skirt
All of the above products have the following warning alongside the item description: "WARNING: This product may contain a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm."
On the plus side, at least American Apparel is being straight up about these dangerous wares. But the pressing question is - should they even be retailing them in the first place?
