Grieving Dad's Plea To Photoshop His Baby's Photo: 'I Want To See What My Daughter Would Have Looked Like Without Tubes'

A grieving dad's internet appeal has resulted in heart-warming acts of kindness from strangers.

Nathan Steffel's six-week-old baby daughter Sophia died from a liver tumour last Thursday (July 10).

Three days later Nathan posted a photo of Sophia on Reddit with this request:

"Photoshop request: My daughter recently passed away after a long battle in the children's hospital. Since she was in the hospital her whole life we never were able to get a photo without all her tubes. Can someone remove the tubes from this photo?"

The response to Nathan's post was rapid and emotional.

"I couldn't sleep without at least trying," one poster wrote.

"Wow, I'm going hug my newborn now," added another.

The pictures of his daughter without the tube soon started flooding in.

Nathan wrote: "This is really amazing. Everyone you have made my day. All I wanted was a nice picture. What I received was a lot of love and support from a bunch of strangers. A long with a lot of great photos, drawings and paintings. Thanks everyone!"

The pictures:

Sophia was born on May 30. She suffered from a type of tumour called a hepatic hemangioma on her liver. She spent part of her life in a hospital in Columbus, Ohio, before being transferred to Cincinnati children's hospital.

Nathan explained on Reddit. "She was on the waiting list for her liver when she passed from complications involving the pressure on her abdomen due to the hemangioma. She was six weeks old."

Nathan also said he and his wife had known something was wrong ever since their first ultrasound scan, but they didn't realise quite how serious their daughter's condition was.
