After wearing a tiara for the first time since her wedding earlier this week, the Duchess of Cambridge accessorised with something a little less sparkly at the Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom premiere.

Instead of a glamorous headband or Nineties scrunchie, Duchess Kate paired her Roland Mouret dress with a black velvet ribbon tied around her ponytail. Yep, Kate experimented with a new hairstyle. Finally.

It was a simple and subtle way of making a statement, but the accessory looked pretty cute in Kate's glossy swept back locks.

After watching the film, the Duke and Duchess were informed of Mandela's death. Prince William spoke to the press before leaving the cinema. "I just wanted to say it's extremely sad and tragic news," he said.
