MPs got very excited on Thursday when they thought they spotted Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli watching a debate on drug policy in the House of Commons from the public gallery.

However upon further investigation the man turned out to be a 55-year-old dancer, rather than the 24-year-old premiership footballer.

Tory MP Guy Opperman was sure it was Balotelli "wearing sharp suit, pink shirt and a poppy". The "press may be divided but u should go and ask him! MPs in Commons agreed it is him," he tweeted. "Or his absolute double."

Reporters rushed to discover whether the Italian footballer had taken some time out of training to watch MPs argue about drugs. They soon discovered he had not. The man, The Sun noted, did have a similar mohican haircut. "I get that all the time," he told the Daily Telegraph.
