All new parents know there are few things cuter than a baby with hiccups.

It's the anticipation of the squeaky event – and then the look of 'What the hell happened there?' confusion that crosses your baby's face at the mini eruption.

So you can't blame dad Samuel Clark for filming his baby boy experiencing a particularly sweet bout of the hiccups.

Oh, how we cooed and awed as the little lad gently coughs in time, like a mini human metronome. It's hypnotic!

But be prepared for a hilarious surprise towards the end!

Warning: Samuel's video is aptly called 'Wait for it...' Do not take a gulp of tea at the 55 second mark or you may end up copying his baby son!

Story continues after video...

Of course – this baby's case aside – hiccups are not a laughing matter for everyone.

Yes, they're a source of amusement...for a while, but after a few minutes they just get in the way of everything!

Take the case of 19-year-old Chris McKernan, from Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Earlier this year, we reported that he'd been hiccupping at the rate of 25 times a minute ever since. That's an astonishing 1,500 times an hour - meaning as he's awake around 16 hours a day, hiccuping 24,000 times each day.

Chris tried traditional 'cures', such as sucking a lemon, standing on your head, drinking water upside down, breathing into a plastic bag, getting a scare and eating a huge spoonful of peanut butter, but all failed to work.

But that's nothing compared to American Charles Osborne, who holds the world record for being afflicted by hiccups for an incredible 68 years!
