Chick Inside An Egg Video Is Like Something From 'Alien'

No This Isn't A Scene From 'Alien'

While being able to see a chick inside an egg is fascinating, for Andrea Pollard at the Royal Veterinary College it's just another day in the office.

Pollard is conducting an experiment that hopes to better understand how exercise within the egg affects how the chick will then develop once in the outside world.

To test her theory she's been comparing normal chick development with chicks that have been given 4-aminopyridine, a muscle stimulant.

As New Scientist reports in the video above, the differences are startling with the second chick being far more active than the first.

It's believed that this movement then directly contributes to the development of bones and muscles, with more movement inside the egg resulting in different muscles getting more development.
