The former Olympian, formerly known in the public eye as Bruce, introduced herself to the world this week, through a cover shoot with Vanity Fair.

She’s now opened up to the magazine’s website about how she chose her new name, admitting that it wasn’t an easy decision, claiming: “It’s one of the hardest things in life - choosing your own name.”

Caitlyn admitted that she took the unusual step of watching the Miss America beauty pageant to help her come up with a name, and reveals she was torn between Cathy and Heather at one point.

When her assistant suggested Caitlyn, a name she’d also been considering, she says it helped her finalise her decision, exclaiming: “I love that name too!”

Earlier this week, many people noted that Caitlyn had chosen to spell her name with a ‘C’, rather than a ‘K’, as her step-daughters, the Kardashians, and daughters Kylie and Kendall Jenner do.

Addressing whether this was intentional, Caitlyn says she “decided it was best to break tradition”, and distance herself from “the media associations that went with it”.

Caitlyn recently opened up about her marriage to her ex-wife, Kris Jenner, confessing she felt “mistreated” by her towards the end of their relationship.
