Avro Vulcan XH558 Performs Spectacular Stunt At Royal International Air Tattoo

The Avro Vulcan Bomber Said Goodbye With This Spectacular Stunt

This weekend the Avro Vulcan Bomber marked its goodbye to the skies with a spectacular stunt at the Royal International Air Tattoo, at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

As it took off the runway, it flew to the right in a move that was lower than any other manoeuvre it has done before.

The Vulcan's performance won an award for the best display at the world's largest airshow and this picture proves why:

The Red Arrows later saluted the aircraft's final flying season with nine jets forming a V-shape in front of the plane.

David Montenegro, Team Leader of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, said: "It was a great honour to lead a formation flypast with the Vulcan, particularly as the aircraft type was once based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire - now home to the Red Arrows."

As you can imagine the view from the cockpit of one of the Red Arrow jets was simply amazing:

The Vulcan still has quite a few more dates left of its farewell tour, before it is permanently grounded in September but the show's spectators didn't miss the opportunity to show their appreciation for the vintage British aircraft:
