Lingerie mogul Michelle Mone certainly brought a smile to George Osborne’s face today as she officially joined the House of Lords.

The Glaswegian-born businesswoman, who founded the multi-million pound Ultimo brand in 1996, was appointed a Tory Life Peer earlier this year.

Today she donned the famous red gown to swear her allegiance to the Queen in front of a packed House of Lords.

After the ceremony, Baroness Mone of Mayfair was joined in the Peers’ dining room by a very happy Chancellor and equally smiley Iain Duncan Smith.

Another member of the government who may have had a smile put on their face thanks to Baroness Mone is David Cameron.

MJM, the company which the new Peer founded and runs the lingerie brand Ultimo, sent the Prime Minister some clothing in August last year.

The value of the clothing was in excess of £140 and held by the Cabinet Office, according to data released today.
