Kellie Bright was the high-scorer in Saturday night’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ semi-finals, wowing the judges with both of her routines.

She and her professional partner Kevin Clifton garnered particular praise for their Rumba to Eva Cassidy’s ‘Songbird’, which even Craig Revel Horwood himself struggled to find fault with.

He told the ‘EastEnders’ actress: “That was a classic, darling. I thought you danced it absolutely beautifully.”

Bruno Tonioli also compared them to iconic dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, while Len Goodman assured them they were “100 per cent” deserving of a spot in next weekend’s live final.

Jay McGuiness and Georgia May Foote - the latter of whom was in the bottom two last week - were in joint second place, though it was a slightly less successful night for broadcaster Katie Derham.

Katie and her partner, Anton du Beke, were especially criticised with their Charleston, which the judges claimed looked uncomfortable.

Len told the pair their Charleston “wasn’t slick enough”, with even Darcey Bussell suggesting that the pair’s nerves were tangible.

Craig also warned: “You just better hope your next dance is perfect because that one isn’t going to get you through to the final.”

Unfortunately for them, their Waltz was similarly picked apart, chiefly by an unimpressed Len, who told them: “It has to be perfect and it wasn’t. I’m Italian and Puccini is god to me. When you approach something with that level of perfection, you have to live up to it.”

Only four contestants will make it through to next weekend’s ‘Strictly’ live final, where one couple will succeed Caroline Flack and Pasha Kovalev as this year’s champions.
