Twitter Rumoured To Introduce 10,000-Character Limit for Tweets

Jack Dorsey Responds To 10,000-character Tweets Rumours With An Essay

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has responded to rumours about a 10,000-character limit for tweets, using more than 140 characters.

Hinting the change was most likely to happen, he wrote: "we didn't start Twitter with a 140 character restriction. We added that early on to fit into a SMS message (160 characters).

However, Twitter users have come out in fighting form to defend the platform from the potential changes which were reported in Recode yesterday.

The publication stated multiple sources familiar with the company's plan had explained how Twitter could build "a new feature that will allow users to tweet things longer than the traditional 140-character limit."

Following the report, the Guardian reported a drop in share prices, which fell more than 2 percent.

Meanwhile, people used their 140-character limit to tweet what everyone was probably already feeling about the potential change.
