Ricky Gervais could be forgiven for thinking he has enough on his plate right now.
In addition to bringing his alter ego David Brent to the big screen later this year, he’s also debuting ‘Special Correspondents’ which he wrote, directed and stars in, on Netflix later this month.
But it seems that isn’t enough for the comedian who once explained to HuffPostUK that, having only found success in his forties, he loves to work.
As if to prove his point, Ricky is revisiting his old career of stand-up comedy, with a couple of secret gigs already booked “to see if he still likes it”.
He tells Radio 1: "I’m going to go along and chat for an hour or so.”
This will be Ricky’s first foray back to the ‘loneliest job in the world’ since 2010, although he could argue he’s performed on similar territory since then, hosting the Golden Globes four times - each time, pulling fewer punches with his A-list audience, much to the delight of his viewers.
"I feel like I've became a recluse for the past year doing two films. I feel like I've been out of the loop a little bit but it's lovely to be back.”
His announcement follows this week’s release of the first trailer for ‘David Brent: Life on the Road’, for which he also recorded an album.
The film comes out on 19 August and, from the trailer, it seems that David Brent’s life has moved on from the days of Wernham Hogg, with Ricky describing it as “more tragic. It’s a real movie. I’ve painted it like a tragedy.
“But it’s only a tragedy like The Office always was."
