John Cameron

Head of Child Protection Operations, NSPCC

John Cameron is the head of Child Protection Operations for the NSPCC. He joined the charity in 1996 as a manager for the NSPCC’s helpline for adults worried about a child, and became the head of this service in 2003. John is also responsible for the NSPCC’s Child Trafficking Advice Centre, which gives child protection advice, information and support to professionals concerned about children trafficked into the UK. He has experience as a trustee, consultant and trainer to other social helplines in the UK and Europe. John is a qualified special needs teacher, teacher of the deaf and social worker. He worked for 11 years in comprehensive schools and off site support units teaching children with emotional and behaviour difficulties before specialising in the teaching of deaf children with challenging behaviours. As a child protection social work practitioner and team manager he has worked extensively in a number of London Boroughs. John lives in London and is married with two children. Outside of work, John is a big supporter of Charlton Athletic FC. He also sits as a magistrate in South East London.
