Cary Joji Fukunaga, the new ‘James Bond’ director, has said that, like the rest of us, he’s keen for Idris Elba to play the next 007.

When asked about whether he’d be interested in having Idris succeed Daniel Craig in the titular role, Joji said it would be “pretty cool”.

Having already directed Idris in the 2015 film, ‘Beasts of No Nation’, the surprise director of the 25th instalment told The Sun: “He can drive cars really well, he’s a gear-head, and he can do the action.

“If they wanted him to play Bond, he could do it,” he concluded.

Attention first turned to Idris to be the next cocktail-sipping British secret agent when a leaked email from Sony in 2014 reportedly stated that he “should be the next Bond.”

Fuel was only added to this when in the same year, Idris said in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread that he would “absolutely” play 007 if the part was offered to him.

He also joked about the idea when asked by ‘Good Morning Britain’ last month if he preferred his Martini shaken or stirred, and he replied: “Stir-fried actually.”

However, he later did a U-turn, telling everyone in one word whether he was still interested in the part at the premiere of his new film, ‘Yardie’ - and that word, was “no”.

Stop playing with us, Idris, there are hearts on the line.

Japanese-American director Cary was announced as the new director on Thursday, after Danny Boyle stepped down from the project.

He is probably best known for his work on the small screen, having led the first series of ‘True Detective’, on which he remains an executive producer, as well as Netflix’s new release, ‘Maniac’.
