'Strictly Come Dancing' 2016 Line-Up: Melvin Odoom And Ore Oduba Confirmed As Contestants

The former 'Xtra Factor' host is hoping to be a hit on the dancefloor.

Former ‘Xtra Factor’ host Melvin Odoom and Olympics presenter Ore Oduba have been confirmed as the latest stars to join ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Melvin hosted ITV2’s ‘X Factor’ spin-off show last year with Rochelle Humes, before the pair were replaced by Matt Edmonson and Rylan Clark-Neal for the upcoming series.

He announced he would be joining rival show ‘Strictly’ as a contestant on his Kiss FM breakfast show, which he hosts with Rickie Haywood-Williams and Charlie Hedges.

“I’m honoured to be part of ‘Strictly’ 2016! I’m looking forward to learning some new moves of course….but basically it’s the sequins that clinched it for me,” he said.

“I need sparkle in my life and there’s nothing more sparkly that ‘Strictly’. I just hope that my dance partner isn’t too tall!”

While the move is bound to wind up former boss Simon Cowell, he’s not the first former ‘Xtra Factor’ host to do ‘Strictly’, as Caroline Flack won the 2014 series, after she was dropped from the show.

It was also confirmed Melvin will be joined on the line-up by Ore Oduba.

He’s best known for presenting CBBC’s ‘Newsround’ and is a regular face on ‘BBC Breakfast’. Currently, he’s fronting BBC Four’s coverage of the Rio 2016 games.

Speaking of joining ‘Strictly’, Ore said: “I’m still waiting for someone to wake me up and tell me I’m dreaming!

“I’ve been such a huge fan of the show for over a decade. So to actually take to the ‘Strictly’ stage myself, I don’t think I’ve been more nervously excited - aside from on my wedding day. Let’s hope for fewer tears! I cannot wait to get started, it’s going to be so much fun.”

‘Pop Idol’ winner Will Young, former Labour MP Ed Balls and presenter Laura Whitmore have already been confirmed as contestants, with more to be announced over the coming days.

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns to BBC One in September.
