Doctors Advise Pregnant Women: Enjoy A Fry-Up!

Scientists have advised pregnant woman to get stuck into a fry-up, after it was revealed that the ingredients can aid the healthy development of unborn babies' brains.

Choline, a nutrient found in egg yolks, bacon, offal and green leaves, has been proven to support healthy development, which can reduce the chance of birth defects.

Whilst the thought of bacon fat when you're suffering from morning sickness might not appeal, it's worth remembering that the nutrient can also be found in wheat germ, spinach and cauliflower.Previous studies have also suggested that it can protect against liver disease and may help to lower cholesterol. They also suggest that one in four women are currently choline deficient.

Dr Zeisel, who led the study, claims pregnant women who have the lowest levels of choline are four times as likely to have a baby with a birth defect compared to women who eat the most.
