Henry Cavill

He's been cast as Superman and it seems Henry Cavill has no trouble living up to the title.

The 28-year-old British actor showed off his muscular physique on set of the new Superman film, Man Of Steel, in Vancouver, Canada, yesterday.

Cavill follows in the footsteps of actors such as Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh and Dean Cain by taking on the role of Clark Kent, and has made no secret about the challenge of becoming Superman.

He recently told Total Film: "I'm on 5000 calories a day... You've got to eat protein first, then a little bit of carbs... you've got to keep your hunger levels going.

"I'm training two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits, putting on a lot of muscle mass and just making myself look like Superman."

In September, photos of Cavill in his Superman costume leaked online, showing that he no longer has the traditional red underwear-type tights, trading them in for a full blue bodysuit.

Mr. Cavill looks OK as Superman, but from the official plot "synopsis" and the rumors flying around about what the movie will be about, it sounds like the film will be astoundingly . . . thoroughly unoriginal. Retelling Superman's origin is lame. Been done before. The origina George Reeves TV show actually did that pretty well and the first Chris Reeve Superman movie did an excellent job with bringing that to the big screen.

Oh, and who will the likely villin be? Lex Luthor. Like Superman does not have a bazillion flashier, more powerful enemies to battle? At least they could bring out Braniac if they have to have another has-been super villain.

I can also surmise that at some point in the film Superman will get in trouble because of, oh my, kryptonite. What a surprise that will be to all the fans.

Maybe they will come up with something original, like Supes v. Mongul or Darkseid, or, better yet, the Martian Manhunter (even though he is a good guy, it isn't hard to come up with a plot device to have them do battle). I predict, though, that this sounds like a typically unimaginative CGI inspired film. I'm sitting this one out unless they come up with something new, beyond my expectations.

There is no real Superman Reeve was the actor who's thus far played the character best though.
