Adolf Hitler And Aryan Nation: Parents Who Gave Children Nazi Names Lose Custody

Huffington Post UK   First Posted: 27/10/11 18:25 Updated: 27/12/11 10:12

A couple who named their children ‘Adolf Hitler’ and ‘Aryan Nation’ will not regain custody of their three children in Holland, New Jersey, a court has ruled.

Heath and Deborah Campbell who live in a house adorned with swastikas and other Nazi memorabilia were found not guilty of child abuse. However Adolf Hitler, 5, Aryan Nation, 4 and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, 3 will remain in care, as they have done since 2009.

The news of the poorly named children is shocking people around the world, as Adolf Hitler is now trending on Twitter in the UK, the USA, France, Italy and even Germany.

The Campbells allege that authorities investigated their children after a bakery refused to ice a cake with “Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler.” Despite managing to procure the inscription from another cake shop, their children were taken away from them soon after.

Authorities claim this was because of an anonymous call reporting child abuse.

The parents insist that the children’s names are nothing to do with Nazi worship and although
Heath Campbell has tattoos of swastika on his arms, he says this is because he appreciates art, not because he endorses neo-Nazism.

Similarly they chose the names for their children because they said that they were unusual. Mr. Campbell argued that just because his son was called Adolf Hitler didn’t mean he would grow up to be like the Nazi dictator. Alarming reports from the court showed that Adolf, the eldest child, frequently threatened to kill people.

The children were decided not to be returned to their parents because it emerged that the Campbells had both suffered from child abuse as children and whilst they were unemployed were deemed to have unspecified mental and physical illnesses.

The parents have been picketing outside a child protection agency in New Jersey to try and regain custody of their children. Their next court date is scheduled for December.

Great that proper action was taken. The children should, without question, be taken from their parents. Now hopefully they will have an actual chance at a real childhood and opportunities as adults. Quite frankly, this should have been an issue when the oldest child was originally named it at birth - surely the name had to be registered somwhere legally? This idea that anyone can have kids and anyone can do as they please with these children - bring them up with hatred, name them after mass murderers is not ok in any shape or form. Now, how about the Westboro children being removed from their psychotic horrendous parents.

I am actually quite relieved to see that the local authorities have taken this situation so seriously.
The parents are really clutching at straws to suggest that they simply thought the names were attractive...or that the swastika was an artistic symbol. Even a ten year old could 'connect the dots' in a moment and realise that they are hero-worshipping one of the most gruesome episodes in our global history. Their benign, innocent demeanors are nauseating given that they must have such overwhelmingly perverse ideologies to have made them this obsessed with Nazism.
I sincerely hope that they are never allowed to keep these or any additional offspring.
It's just a shame that the same laws haven't been exercised with regard to the Westborough baptist church mob who are continuing to give birth to and poison the minds of their children.
I know that Americans are so very proud of their 'first amendment' and the Pandora's box which it has created but I think that anyone who tattoos a swastika onto someone who is not a Hindu should have their license revoked and be prosecuted.

Sadly, Americans have become SO selfish and incompetent in nearly every aspect of life, that we're having a hard time finding enough sane people to staff the institutions that we need to raise children of selfish, incompetent people like this.

Perhaps, your bigotry and prejudices is getting in the way! Poor parenting "skills" does not equate with raising good citizens. If more people weren't so abused by CPS and perhaps other aspects of life; we would have a healthier society. Lots of people have been so emotionally scarred; I know especially from this particular agency (CPS)that if anybody recovers somewhat it is a miracle!

I remember this story when it first came out. Deborah wrote a letter to her neighbor saying that the husband was going to kill her, that's what first brought the child protection agency to their door. From the video they do seem unstable mentally and it's a good thing the kids aren't with them BUT during the video of the parents protesting does anyone else notice the mothers mid section? she looks pregnant again to me. I know this is america but there should be some kind of child bearing laws in place, everyone really shouldn't be entitled to have children

I recall a recent article from Fox about how New Zealand dictated what parents can name their children. This in spite of there being only a very limited list of prohibited names and generally in the interest of the child's well being. I wonder if Fox will be as enthusiastic in this case, in condemning America for dictating what parents might be able to name their children.

wow, Im actually glad to say the state is using common sense on this one you dont need a law for to do whats rite all the time.

Very messy case. There is no law against being a neo-Nazi and certainly no law against naming children with unpopular names. Maybe their names are in bad taste, but not illegal. And, on a per se basis should and cannot justify removing the children from the parent's home. Interestingly, the parents were found not guilty of child abuse, yet the 'Authorities' still keep the children from the parents on othe rgrounds. I'm not defending the parents, their backgrounds are questionable.
I would like to know the surnames and affiliations of these 'authorities' who are so aggressive.

Just goes to show...not everyone's fit to be parents. It doesn't really matter if it's just a name. And if they weren't trying to endorse the neo-nazi lifestyle, then why name their daughter Arian Nation??? FAIL.

The parents must have a few screws loose to give their children such names. It's a messy case and no doubt it will end badly for all. A real lose-lose situation if ever there was one. The poor kids are marked for life now :-( Whatever happens they'll be able to remember this debacle and it'll mess them up. I can only hope that somehow they find universal love and compassion for their fellow human beings.
