Thirteen people have been killed, and hundreds injured in an Egyptian police and army assault on protesters in Tahrir Square in central Cairo, Haaretz and the BBC report.

Eight further people were killed today, while two previously reported deaths occurred on Saturday and one earlier today. Nine hundred people have been injured, including at least 40 Egyptian military or police personnel, according to the BBC.

On Saturday, police officers, dressed in black and bearing shields and riot gear, moved in on a small encampment of protesters left over from a massive demonstration on Friday.

Liberal revolutionaries together with Salafist Muslims object to continuing repression by the temporary military council now ruling this country.

BBC footage showed protesters covered in blood and fleeing from police who threw stones, beat civilians with truncheons and fired tear gas.

Elections are due to begin on November 28, and some in the country and internationally have attempted to cast the political choice as one between hardline Islamism or secular liberalism.

The street battles demonstrate civilian frustration at the speed of remove, and potential military involvement in the country's rule following the elections.

A protester Ahmed Hani, told Al Jazeera "We have a single demand: The marshal must step down and be replaced by a civilian council." He was referring to Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, Egypt's interim military ruler, and former defence
minister in the Mubarak government.

You have to love the Arab Spring. The fact is the powers that be in Egypt will never give up their right to rule the masses. Arab Spring means Arab FAIL.

Is it just me? Seems like every time we remove some so called evil ruler, that matters seem to get worse? We help in their removal, because they were cruel to their people, and needless blood shed? Then it seems the country is broken if you will, or worse off for us having mettled in their affairs. I'm starting to think that these people only understand a rough hand. ( Oh, I'm sure there are some that need assistance.) Borrowing money from us, or being given to them as aide, and they turn around, and bite us. Our own people could have used those tax dollars more wisely until they got back on their feet. Someone tell me if you believe me to be wrong. Starting to believe we should just mind our own business, and protect our own boarders. Most assuredly make, and sell our own products. Not purchase from else where so as to loose a person their job in our wonderful country. I know we have our own problems. But, who is perfect? We really need to work on ourselves. Alot of folks picketting across the country, I feel it is a distraction from what is really wrong. In other words taking the heat off of the politcians who need it.

The plan all along is for Muslims friends of Obama to take over run the gas price up furthering crippling us. For some reason Obama wants America on her knees. He is almost there too.

What happened Obama promised us roses, rainbows and unicorns with the Arab Spring OOOPS. Obama makes Jimmy Carter look like George Washington. He put Hillary in charge and she can't even figure out her husband is cheating 10 feet from her and blamed it on a great Right Wing Conspiracy. Friends we are in serious waters with Mr. Magoo at the helm. May God bless us.

The situation has gotten much worse in Egypt as we all can see. Perhaps President Obama should go back there and try to clean the mess up which he is essentially responsible for, in my view, by encouraging it along way back in February! Wonder what will happen with Libya in the future?
