CPS 'Very Close' To Making A Decision On Whether To Prosecute Chris Huhne, Says Keir Starmer

Prosecutors 'Very Close' To A Decision On Huhne Speeding Case

The Crown Prosecution Service are "very close" to making a decision over whether to prosecute energy secretary Chris Huhne over an alleged speeding offence.

Speaking on Tuesday morning, the director of public prosecutions Keir Starmer said that he was waiting for emails and tapes thought to be held by the Sunday Times.

"We are very close to a decision. There is one remaining issue which is that we are seeking some material which is held by a national newspaper. That is the only thing we are waiting for now ", he told told BBC Radio 5 Live

"I understand why people think it is taking a lot of time but the way in which we get material from journalists is an important principle, quite separate from the Chris Huhne case."

Huhne is alleged to have asked his ex-wife, Vicky Pryce, to take speeding points on his behalf in 2003.

The Lib Dem cabinet minister has denied the accusations.
