Ben Whishaw Cast As Q In James Bond 'Skyfall'

Ben Whishaw Making James Bond History

Ben Whishaw has gone to the head of the Q for the new Bond film after he's signed up to play 007's gadget guru.

The 31-year-old star, who recently appeared in BBC drama The Hour, was confirmed as a cast member for the new film earlier this month by director Sam Mendes, but he refused to say what part Ben was playing.

However, today Ben's agent confirmed to the BBC that he will be playing the secret service quartermaster.

Ben is much younger than previous actors who played Q, the man whose job it is to keep Bond equipped with the latest ingenious technology.

John Cleese played the part in recent films after taking over from Desmond Llewelyn who starred in 17 films.

Details of the new film, called Skyfall, were unveiled at a press conference in central London earlier this month.

Leading man Daniel Craig heads a cast that includes Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Dame Judi Dench, who plays spy boss M. The Bond girls are played by Naomie Harris, who plays an agent called Eve, and French actress Berenice Marlohe.

The film will be shot in locations including London, Turkey and Scotland and is set to be released in the UK next October.
