David Cameron Tops New Poll As Ed Miliband Struggles To Land A Punch

David Cameron George Osborne

David Cameron has received a boost with a poll suggesting voters back the coalition's handling of the economic crisis.

Research by ICM for the Sunday Telegraph found the Tories had leapfrogged Labour despite more dire news for UK plc in the Autumn Statement.

The Conservatives were on 38%, up two points from last month, with the Opposition down two on 36%. The Liberal Democrats were unchanged on 14%.

The survey is a blow for Labour leader Ed Miliband, amid concerns that he is failing to make an impact on the electorate.

However, it also provided evidence of deep divisions over Chancellor George Osborne's plans to increase the state pension age to 67 from 2026, a decade earlier than previously intended.

Some 37% supported the measure designed to deal with Britain's ageing population, but 50% oppose it.

ICM Research interviewed a random sample of 1,005 adults by telephone on November 29-30. Interviews were conducted across the country and results have been weighted to the profile of all adults.

A poll out today giving Labour a 6pt lead.

It's a bit misleading to only write articles about polls on the rare occasions they have the Tories ahead & ignore them the rest of the time. There are always going to be outliers.

I'd love to know where they take these polls, I've never been asked my views.

Its a bit of the same here in Australia where News Corpse polls show dreadful figures for non conservative parties in an effort to steer elections (along with grossly inaccurate reportage.

In the NZ elections, South Australian, Queensland, Tasmanian and Victorian elections their dodgy polls all proved false.

Well said. I voted Tory last time, BUT NEVER EVER AGAIN, I will vote UKIP next time.
Cameron has failed us on every promise. Crime is up, weak on Justice, Immigration up, Foreign Aid up, the list goes on.
They should call Cameron 'Hackney' as he does more 'U' turns than a London taxi.

Some are saying a Labour government always ends messing up, what about 18yrs of Tory misrule from 1979-1997, every Tory led government is the same, high unemployment, they desimated the North Britain's industry within only 2yrs in power (by 1981), all this lot can think about is mainly wealthy businessmen, the fat cats, and the south east portion of England, the UK is vastly a working class culture so why we got these eton boys club trying running things.

As our learned friend Lawyer13 stated, we can't spend what we do not have, and rightly so, but how many times over the past ten or fifteen years have we seen governments squander millions of tax payers money on ill fated projects ,one instance was the millenium dome, and there have been loads of others, and you would think that money taken from the British tax payer would be spent on the British tax payer, we in this country have so maney needy people who genuinely need assistance but are told we havn't got the money, yet time and time again we that the government has given so many millions to another country, its about time we had a Prime Minister of Great Britain and not the rest of the world.

We the voters have for donkey's years been duped by both the leading parties, in the build up to any general election they have mislead every one with their deceipt and lies on what they are going to do once they are elected, and time and time again they do just the opposite, you would think by now we would have seen the error of our ways keep voting for them, but the time has come to take stock, the two main parties have had enough time to run this country as it should be, for the benifit of the people and not for their own gains, there is an old saying, a leopard will never change its spots.

this lot wont do the same. If you think this lot is for the common man/woman/child in this country
think again each member of the leadership is a multi milionare and will have afew more million

No surprise there, labour should never get in again, most of the hardship that the people of this country are going through now and for the next 10 years or so is DOWN TO THEM.

Yes thats exactly what I think about them, especially with old millibland at the helm, and the financial whizz kid ballsy coming up the rear.
11:23 PM on 12/04/2011
Totally agree with you! I`m having a book published called "What Were They Thinking!" When I complained to an ex MP about serious failings and flaws in services, including cops, had a letter from ex MPs PA, showing corrupt MP went to ex chief exec of Council, who gave me a thorugh investigation, total waste of bloody taxpayers money, as I`m a law abiding citizen, they bugged watched and harssed me, til a few months down the line in Nov 07, had a guy call and accuse me of my father in law`s disability benefit, truly dull and sad services don`t know how to resolve but prefer to play stupid games, including mind games, they met more than their match with me, as began writing to media in Sep 07, exposing names,#s etc etc 4 corruption, conspiracy and harassment, my book will tell all!
10:47 PM on 12/04/2011
what do you expect with ed milibland
10:14 PM on 12/04/2011
This is because most people believe that this government is trying it's best to recover our country from the edge of the financial disaster that Gordon BROWN and New Labour inflicted upon us all!
However much the Socialists scream, shout and stamp their feet reality is reality and they will never ever be trusted with the nations purse strings again! Balls up Balls, Silly Millipede, and the rest of the Socialist rabble have been rumbled they caused the damage they will pay the price.

figures mean nothing if the torries have had such a boost lets go to the vote now .
they will not let us vote on europe ( wonder why ) .
10:07 PM on 12/04/2011
Erm Labour I seem to recall were in power for 11 years prior and they didn't give us a vote in Europe, even though Blair and his cronies promised us a referendum on the Maastrich Treaty then back tracked and we didn't get one. How strange Labour supporters have very very short memories. Nuff said
07:18 AM on 12/05/2011
The Maastricht Treaty was signed by the previous Conservative government. Both the Conservatives & Labour weaselled out of promises to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

you must be one of the few that likes to see billions of pounds given away to europe every year , well the rest of us are sick of it , short memory , i remember when petrol and diesel was a lot less and people could afford to pay their bills without struggling under labour , i also remember that under a tory government , but they were selling everthing british to balance their books , don,t question my memory . i want english money to stay in england . nuff said ............................

It was unfortunate Labour elected Ed Milliband leader. David would have been better, but better still would have been a combination of Alan Johnson and Andy Burnham. They would have been the combination of youth and experience needed to re-invigorate the party. Never mind, Cameron won't all an election until he absolutely has to, so we've still got another couple of years to get the message across.

PS Good luck to the Unilever staff on Friday - Private sector workers striking to protect their final salary pension - the Public Sector is right behind you.
