A man who ran through Lambeth firing shots from a loaded vintage revolver has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Shaun Calinder, 23, was found by police with a 1913-15 Webley revolver, which is nearly 100 years old (a similar model is pictured here).
Officers on patrol in Lambeth on 4 July heard shots being fired, made their way to the scene and chased Calinder before arresting him in Abbotswood Road.
Calinder was charged with possession of the distinctive weapon and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
Police said they did not know why Calinder had the gun, or why he was firing shots from the gun.
Calinder received 10 years for possession of the gun, as well as 10 years with intent to endanger life and five years for possession of a prohibited weapon. All the sentences will run concurrently.
"I am pleased with the lengthy prison sentence that Calinder has received after he mindlessly fired shots in a public place where innocent members of the public could have been hurt," said Detective Sergeant Darren Dervan, from the anti-guns task force Trident. "Thankfully this time there were no injuries."
"The bravery of the unarmed officers who arrested Calinder was outstanding."
