Animal lovers may want to look away now – for an upmarket London store is selling tinned reindeer pate as a Christmas treat.

Harvey Nichols is flogging the £15 cans as “an Arctic delicacy” and it is so popular it has already sold out.

The 190g tins contain cognac, spices and reindeer meat – which is farmed in accordance with EU legislation.

The meat is from Sweden and is labelled as a “farm raised relative of Rudolph”.

But animal rights group Viva! Has slammed the store for stocking the food, supplied by London company Edible.

Spokesman Justin Kerswell said: “What kind of sicko would relish cracking open a tin of reindeer pate come Christmas day? And what kind of store would think it appropriate to sell it?”

Lidl has been criticised for selling reindeer steaks in the past.

I don't see how this is any different from eating cows or sheep..

Why not? It is meat after all. I might even treat myself to a venison steak or burger tomorrow.

Sounds tasty - last year my Christmas dinner was venison (ehm) and if I could find a joint of Rudolph meat it would be again this year.

It's delicious! I really don't see what the problem is... A lot of Christams cards and assorted gifts have Turkeys on them you know... If we can't eat Christmas icons then Xmas Pud is off the list too!
