Matthew Vaughn Returning To X Men For First Class Sequel

Back With The X Men

Matthew Vaughn is set to direct the X-Men: First Class sequel.

The British director will return to take control of the eagerly awaited follow-up, with Simon Kinberg writing the script and Bryan Singer producing, reported Deadline.

Matthew's frequent collaborator Jane Goldman has not signed on to pen the screenplay as yet.

The filmmaker previously said that he would be open to returning for a second film, and already had some ideas.

"I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto," he told Collider.com.

He also told Movieweb that a new face could be introduced.

"We will only have one more new character. I won't say who he or she is! But we will only be bringing one more new character in," he teased.

"Because, I think, as Professor X is in a wheelchair, Magneto needs to have a nemesis he can fight with. Someone that will be his equal. I know who it is. It would be nice if I could say something, but I can't, mate!"

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are expected to reprise their roles as Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto in the sequel.
