Sex Change Man Gives Birth

Baby

First Posted: 12/02/2012 20:13 Updated: 12/02/2012 20:30   PA

A man is believed to have become Britain's first "male mother" by giving birth despite his sex change operation.

The man, thought to be in his 30s, had the child last year, said transgender support group the Beaumont Society.

It is possible for transgender men who were born women, who still have functioning ovaries and a uterus, to become pregnant while still identifying and living as men.

Joanna Darrell, from the Beaumont Society, said the man, who was born a woman but had had a sex change, had approached the society asking for advice about having a baby.

"We had a general inquiry to the Beaumont Society," she said. "The society, all it does is provide information and acts as an information hub for people to find data about specific things, and we are able to refer them to more specialist organisations.

"He came for some information and I referred him to GIRES."

GIRES, the Gender Identity Research and Education Society, is a charity that provides education, based on research into gender identity and intersex issues, to help improve the lives of those affected by the issues.

She said the man later got back in touch with the society to thank them for their help and say he had given birth to a baby.

"We sometimes get people coming back to say thanks for our help. He got back in touch and said he had had the baby."

She said as far as she knew the man's inquiry had been very unusual: "This is probably unique, in the two years that I have been a member of the society this is the only one that I have been able to refer on."

The man is thought to be the first British man to have given birth.

Thomas Beattie, from Oregon, made headlines around the world when he became the world's first "pregnant man" in 2008 and has since borne three children.

And Scott Moore, a transgender man, who lives in California with his husband, gave birth in March 2010.

Israeli transgender man Yuval Topper was reported to have given birth on December 28, 2011.

Ok if somebody feels they wee born into the wrong body like this person did!! and wants to becomme a man hey as some people have said here there body but WHEN another person who has NO choice ie a baby then why should it be ignored??? If you give up the right to be a woman because you dont FEEL right surely that includes bearing children??? I mean that is the most womanly thing ever because MEN CANNOT HAVE CHILDREN in this society that now is the only difference!! Sadly this child will be bullied and no amount of love will help it to face that unless you live on an island??? So i think this PERSON because they are neither man nor woman should of thought seriously before they had this child!! One thing is apparent this person certainly wanted there cake and to eat it as well sadly it will be the innocent child that will be bear the brunt of taunts as he/she grows up!!!

Hideous, I hope the Social Services have a close eye on this messed up woman's Child. Why do doctors aid this kind of peculiar behaviour?
16:07 on 13/02/2012
This "man" is physically and psychologically a woman. It is ridiculous to pretend otherwise.
15:56 on 13/02/2012
New word for the dicionary??? Mumdad?
16:53 on 13/02/2012
How about "Dum"
15:48 on 13/02/2012
Everyone is intitled to do what they want, it's his body, its his min, he's made it up, so why bash him ????? judge your own lifes and get over it !!!!
14:33 on 13/02/2012
Its not a man, it's a seriously screwed up woman with male bits grafted on and the female bits either amputated or hidden away. The doctor who performed the surgery should be struck off. I'm no Muslim, but you really do start to think that Islamic countries, whilst being a bit extreme about it, actually have a perspective on things like this that most of us would whole-heartedly agree with. By comparison, Frankenstein's creation is rather mainstream compared with some of the monsters we're creating.
14:43 on 13/02/2012
oh you are disgusting.
15:19 on 13/02/2012
Don't link your thinking to Islam. Even if you're not 'lumping us all together' or specifying your conjectures to the, admittedly extremist countries, why mention the religion at all? That's exactly how the terrorists and extremists give Muslims a bad name. You go around acting as if your beliefs represent other people when they don't. It's narrow minded and ignorant.
16:06 on 13/02/2012
Suggest you read this again. Or perhaps you are the sort of Muslim that takes offence to ANY comment about your culture (NOTE: NOT religion) good or bad by anyone who isn;t a Muslim. Wrong thread to address that one, but just to clarify I'm making the point that we've got to the point in the liberal west where we are not just tolerating but accepting, and thereby encouraging, behaviour that in many cultures would be outrageous. AND that when asked most would agree that our culture has gone too far and that other cultures might be much nearer the mark, even though those cultures are looked on, to say the least, with suspicion by many.

I'm very disappointed by all the ignorant and ill-informed comments, I expected better. I'm a transsexual woman (male to female) and we're not freaks and we're not unnatural, we just want to get on with our lives living as we're supposed to live. I wish the best of luck to this man and his child. I feel sorry for all you haters who are blinded by ignorance and hatred. Peace and love :-)

You only see your side of the Story! This crap should never make the News!
21:02 on 14/02/2012
I try to see other people's point of view. I can only speak from what I've experienced. I agree, this shouldn't be in the news. I only commented because of certain people's negative comments.

My brother is now my sister and has had gender reassignment surgery, sounds like a joke but sadly it is not. He is all ok but from what I heard and like this story here, there are men who say they are women yet they stil have the diesrire to want to have sexual penetration with people from the opposite sex. That's what doesn't make sense to me, how can the person in this story be a man trapped in womans body if she (before her operation) is attracted to a man enough to want sexual penetration? If she was indeed a he in the wrong body wouldn't you think they would be attracted to a man? If it was a genunne case they wouldn't have a male partner and would only have sex with someone if you felt attracted to them or you wanted to do it, so how come she ended up with a bun in the oven and gotten help to get a sex change that cost a lot of money? If she really was a man she wouldn;t want to be with a man she would want to be with a woman.
I have heard of countless cases of men saying..oh I Am supposed to be a woman but I have 2 kids to my ex wife....I think ..you what? all very contradictory to me.
15:21 on 13/02/2012
sorry mistake..I said this

If she was indeed a he in the wrong body wouldn't you think they would be attracted to a man

The last word shoukld have been woman..don't blame me it is all very confusing in my familyconceringing my brother is he a he or is he a she? As far as I am concenred he is will always be my brothere, never my sister.

I understand that it seems strange, but transsexualism is a gender identity and is separate from sexuality. A transsexual woman can be any sexuality (as can a transsexual man), just like a woman who was born with a female body can and a man who was born with a male body can.

I am a transsexual woman who is bisexual and I have a couple of transsexual women friends who are lesbians and a transsexual man friend who is a gay man, and there are transsexual men and transsexual women who are straight.

I assume that you realise that your own sexuality is separate from your gender.

I hope this has been helpful :-)

wow, some of these comments are pretty horrific. As for all the 'what about the child, imagine the bullying!' then why not change attitudes? i wonder if any of you would actually say to their faces (NOT BEHIND A COMPUTER SCREEN) any of these comments you've posted? All that matters is that the child is brought up in a safe, loving environment, so what if they're transgender, gay or whatever other labels are assigned to them?
14:04 on 13/02/2012
Freaks shouldn't be allowed children. What screwed up minds will these poor kids have when they get older? Where are the social services who's job it is to watch out for the welfare of these poor kids? The worlds gone mad.
15:24 on 13/02/2012
true but harshly put, not nice to call people freaks but what you said is true, it is cruel for a shild to have a parent.as a...motherr...father or whatever lol...but seriously I find what affects that would have on a child in the long term, possiulby bullied at school when the other kids found out, I remember I used to get bullied for the colour of my school bag. But I do not think people should have children who have this gender issue as it is unfair on the innoent life, growing up is hard enough without having a parent with a gender issue.

Not a man, a woman with male parts. A man is born a man, a woman is born a woman, just changing "bits" of anatomy does not make you into a man or woman, It's not natural.
13:46 on 13/02/2012
No you got it all wrong. If I sew a tail onto my lower back I will become a horse. Its so obvious............
14:42 on 13/02/2012
Ney, Lass lol.Nonsk is the word!
15:31 on 13/02/2012
I have bought a stick on moustache, I am going to get an interview for a truck driver tomorrow, get big tattoos on my arms and drink a couple of cases of beer then pick a bar fight with someone and then finally scratch my bahootkies. Tomoorow am going to be a mahaaaan...almost sounds like an episode of stars in their eyes with a twist of lemon, or possiblly a twist of insanity.
14:24 on 13/02/2012
And what about those "matrixed" personalities who are born with cells in their body having both XX and XY chromosomes. They are generally hermaphroditic. What are they, and where do they fit in a "Christian god's universe" when it is that god who controls all things?
14:42 on 13/02/2012
I'm an aetheist so all this tosh about Christianity cuts no ice with me. But nature has managed, with humans, to create or develop what is obviously the ideal 'partnership' giving diversity and robustness to our species. Very, very, infrequently it produces a serious mistake. It is sad for the individual who is the victim, compassion means we should care for and help that victim come to terms with his/her condition. It does not mean that we should effectively pander to the defect. That's almost like saying that if someone is blind, we should put the eyes out of everyone else. Nature is cruel, daft to try to convince ourselves otherwise.

and this is news???... a woman having a baby?....ive had two!! check me out :) front page news or what.
10:30 on 13/02/2012
So if he's now male (and I presume in a stable relationship with a woman if he's deciding to bring a child into the world...) then why not have the woman give birth to the child. I can understand why he would want the child to be part of him, but any 'prick' can make a baby it takes a man to be a father. I take my hat off to him for going through all of this but perhaps there is a bit of 'having your cake and eating it' going on here...
11:15 on 13/02/2012
Why do you assume he is in a relationship with a man? My immediate thoughts were that he was in a relationship with a man, and had gotten pregnant naturally...
10:13 on 13/02/2012
Immoral and FREAKY!!!
08:38 on 13/02/2012
I worry about the child born to this person! Just imagine the bullying and name calling in school and what not! But I am sure this person have thought of all this.
