That is an appallingly writen story that really tell us nothing. All we know is that the little man has something between a cut and a fractured skull.
I hope it was just a minor cut and the emergency services were just playing safe.
My local livery yard encourages youngster to have contact at an early age, one of the few stables that do, but they are taught never to go behind any horse where they could get kicked.
The ponies used for the lessons have been carefully selected over a long period of time and are used to having children around them and grooming them at the weekends but it is still a firm rule that they keep clear of the back end.

Sending positive thoughts to the tyke and his family.

Sweet irony would have this lad fully recover and become a world-famous tap dancer.........also known by their nickname, which happens to be "Hoofers".

It's just a terrible accident, why are people always trying to find someone or something to blame. Please let the poor little man make a full recovery xx

I know what they are going through. My son was kicked in the head by a foal when he was about 4. He was fortunate. He is now a CPA accountant and has played Aussie Rules football. Not evrybody is that lucky. Good luck.

i hope the little man makes a fully and speedy recovery.

Difficult to know who, if anyone, is at fault here from the terse details in the story.
Horses (especially their hindquarters) can be dangerous as everyone here knows and there are more non horsey types keeping horses than ever before.
Or maybe the toddler just slipped his parents grasp and made a sudden dash for it as toddlers do.

Where was the boy when kicked, where were his parents, never stand behind cows and horses, they get nervous. It aint the horses fault and again the bulk of the article is missing, glorymongering to make a headline.

Most likely just a ghastly accident. Happened to the child of a friend of mine. Nightmare in a nutshell.

I have known for a long time that horses are not to be trusted when around them especially at their rear ends because a friend of ours got kicked in the chest and had years of treatment in and out of hospital and never really recovered.

Reaad my comment, all country people know horses kick. Treat them with respect.

Poor little mite. I hope he recovers quickly and isn't left traumatised by what happened to him. Parents/carers definitely need to learn to watch their little ones more closely.

Just stupid to have a child so young near horses its a bit like where i live parents letting children play in fields with bullocks. It makes you wonder why they have children when they show no responsibility.

Another case of irresponsible parenting !! Horses are lovely creatures having owned them myself but small children and large animals are a recipe for disaster !! Parents look after your children you have a ressponsibility you brought them into the world do the right thing bring them up to be good caring people so they have a chance in life !!!

As if anyone with a brain cell would leave a toddler to wander around a stable yard or field on their own! Where we're the careers of this child?
00:46 on 19/03/2012
I don't think he had a career, somehow.

Mistakes happen children do have accidents i doubt the parents deliberately allowed their child to be hurt.... have a little sympathy... i would imagine the parents are feeling bad enough without being made to feel neglectful....sorry but if anyone of you condeming these parents have never made a mistake . i would be totally shocked................... oh to be perfect!

well where were they the last time you saw them? clearly you were there. My kids know horse safety because we live with horses at home but a kid with no clue can easily slip off before anyone has a chance to stop them.
