Harry Potter Star Jamie Waylett Jailed For Violent Disorder In London Riots

Vincent Crabbe Jamie Waylett

Harry Potter star Jamie Waylett was jailed for two years at Wood Green Crown Court for being part of a violent mob during last summer's riots in London.

The sentence comes after he was found guilty of violent disorder during last summer's riots in London on Tuesday. However Waylett, 22, who played Hogwarts bully Vincent Crabbe, was cleared of being in possession of a petrol bomb.

The jury took three-and-a-half hours to reach the verdicts at Wood Green Crown Court in north London.

The actor, of Hillfield Road, West Hampstead in north London, had already admitted handling stolen goods - a bottle of champagne that had been taken from a Sainsbury's store.

Waylett, who starred in six Harry Potter movies, was part of a gang of at least four people who took to the streets of Chalk Farm, north London, on the night of 8 August last year, the third night of violence in the capital.

The star, who has a shaved head and a goatee beard, wore a white shirt with an open collar and a dark suit to hear the verdicts.

Adjourning sentencing until later this afternoon, Judge Simon Carr told the jury of five men and seven women: "Thank you very much indeed for the care you have taken on this short but important case."

You couldn't do me half an ounce of skunk, siv u pleb. Been thinking about going into acting.

this young man must of lacked guidence with his acting career, personal life and due to his previous drug taking has messes his life up.

he has let it all go to his head and is or has become a thug and lost his sense of what is right and wrong. a lot of young actors if not given guidence go down a similar slippery slop. look at hollywood for examples where this has happened. some grow up and move on others go down drug group.

Can we all safely assume that education has bypassed you too - along with an utter lack of embarrassment at displaying chav-like levels and use of your mother tongue?
Another (rather common) example of an empty vessel.

Typical slitherin

This young man has some real issues. He has alread been in trouble for growing his own pot and now he's arrested for being in a riot. Why do you think they replaced him in the Potter movies. He's just another thug. Maybe someday he'll straighten himself out (hopefuly soon before something worse happens to him)

So, it turns out that he is not an actor at all, he was simply playing himself.

They say you can tell a lot about a person from their face. He sure is ugly!
17:31 on 21/03/2012
I'm not defending the thug but he isn't ugly. He is fat definately but ugly, no! You definately CANNOT tell anything about a person by their face.Remember the expression,' don't judge a book by it's cover' ?

Community service or something would have been a more just sentence. Is the country still locked in the Dickens mentality? Two years jail time for POSSESSING a stolen champagne bottle? Sorry, over the top. He'd have had a much broader impact talking to kids in rough neighborhood school about the evils of acting with a mob, stealing, whatever. Throwing him in jail is pretty stupid and will accomplish little but to make him unemployable when he gets out and thus another welfare burden on British society. Think harder next time, Brits!! Save the stiff sentences for the really dangerous elements in your society, like your violent soccer fans.

What are your thoughts on Police ending peoples lives (i.e killing them) in broad daylight without charge or trial,as has been the case lately?
01:09 on 21/03/2012
simple-seek justice through the courts.Certainly don`t devastate the lives of innocent people

I have no idea where, or what cases, you are referencing. In New York, every discharge of a police weapon is thoroughly investigated, whether someone is shot or not. . In an awful lot of cases, the victim turns out to be someone with many prior arrests. There is also the situation of "suicide by cop" in which a person intent on dying, baits a police officer into shooting them for self protection. Most major cities are filled with hidden security cameras. While some folks might want to CLAIM a shooting is unprovoked, that is often not born out when the films are examined.

He was convicted of violent disorder, by a jury, not of possessing stolen goods. That charge he already admitted to, in addition to the trial offence. He'll serve 9 or 10 months, plus some curfew time ......... which sounds about right. I wonder what the maximum permissible sentence is for Violent Disorder? More than 2 years for sure, in which case he didn't get a stiff sentence at all.

And what is just about right for bringing down the banks and stealing trillions? Oh yes, nothing.
