Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was sent a cartoon of a camel dressed in bondage gear, reports on a cache of 3,000 leaked emails have said, as revelations over the dictator's inbox take a bizarre twist.

Since the emails emerged around the anniversary of the Syrian uprising last week, they have been scoured over by the media, Facebook pages and the Syrian opposition, in what has proven to be a strange episode in the ongoing Syrian saga.

Perhaps one of the oddest of the emails to be discovered, however, is one apparently sent from the daughter of one of the country's diplomats.

The email contains a picture of a cartoon camel in bondage gear. Pictured below, the camel is kitted out in thigh-high heeled boots, with whips and a mask on its face.

The email is one from a cache of 3,000 emails, leaked via the internet, which reveal details of the president's life, ranging from young female admirers sending him pictures to intimate details of his relationship with his British-born wife Asma.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the emails also reveals that the leader, who has ordered a brutal crackdown against opposition groups, was nicknamed "duck" by his wife.

The paper said Asma Assad had sent her husband "a stream of romantic, soppy and at times racy messages".

In particular, there are a number of emails consisting of love letters to his wife in a bold pink font, accompanied sometimes by the lyrics of country singers.

Emails sent by Asma Assad herself have also caused controversy. It has been discovered that the president's wife sent emails joking that she was in fact "the real dictator" in their relationship.

Al-Assad has come under increasing pressure from world leaders over his treatment of his own country, with violence leaving hundreds of innocent civilians dead and the country poised on the brink of civil war.
