A Romanian model from Bucharest has officially set the Guinness World Record for the longest bridal train, measuring a phenomenal three kilometres (1.8 miles) long.

Ema Dumitrescu, 17, showed off the long ivory train from a hot air balloon above the city to promote the city's biannual Wedding Fair.

"I'm very happy and thrilled that I'll be presenting this event," Dumitrescu said. "It's going to be beautiful to see the wedding train from a balloon and to follow it along the boulevard."

The dress itself was designed and made by the Andree Salon fashion house and took 10 seamstresses 100 days to stitch together.

Almost five kilometres of taffeta, 45 metres of lining, more than five metres of Chantilly lace, 1,800 sewing needles and 150 spool threads were used by the creators to make the train, beating the former record of 2,488m.

The balloon paraded down on one of the city's boulevards originally made by the former dictator Nicolae Ceaucescu, the train lagging, literally, miles behind.

the train isnt even attatched to the dress! how can it be the worlds longest train without it even being attatched to the dress? i understand she would probably fall out if it wasnt secured to something..... but at least attatch it to the rest of the dress. dissappionted

How much did it cost?

How much did it weigh?

No, those wouldn't be pertinent questions.

Okay Ema... now RUN!

Glad the train was secured to the basket, or she would have been pulled right out of the balloon.
