Hogs Back 'Dogging' Lay-By In Surrey To Be Shut After Spot Becomes 'No-Go' Area

Hogs Back
Parents were worried that their children could witness couples meeting for sex

A notorious sex spot close to a primary school in Surrey is to be given a revamp after the local county council finally approved a grant to transform the region into a safe community area.

Hogs Back is known to the police as a PSE, or public sex environment. Angry residents have staged a long campaign to close the lay by after a number of incidents involving people who have clustered in their cars to meet for sex.

Guildford Borough Councillor Tony Rooth said one of the main reasons for the concern about people meeting for sex in the Hogs Back area is its proximity to the Puttenham Church Of England school.

"The school is very close to the fields in which people have public sex", Rooth told the BBC.

"It became a no-go area for parents and children."

A website created for individuals who do meet to engage in 'dogging' now warns participants to "be careful" as "Puttenham residents have started a petition to close the lay by even though this place has been used for over 50 years as a sexsite".

Surrey County Council has refused to provide funding in the past, but recently agreed to supply the Puttenham Parish Council with £3,500 for the improvement scheme to turn the beauty spot into a wildlife area. The plans are likely to be finalised by the end of the month.

However Surrey has a number of isolated spots known for couples meeting to have sex, including National Trust Woodland car parks and behind a number of Surrey pubs.

Well, this is the first time I've ever heard or read about dogging.

But I'm impressed that folks in Surrey have been doing it in this one spot for the past 50 years, and only now are the neighbors annoyed enough to do something about it.

Dear Huff, please stop being tabloid in your headlines. Most places in the country (apart from the deep countryside, I suppose,) could be said to be 'close to a primary school'. Dogging is a silly 'eterosexual practice and can be done absolutely anywhere. The concept of decent tax-paying straight couples taking their children on a nocturnal nature ramble around the beauty spots of the Hogsback does not ring true. Prudish homeowners in search of something to get worked up about is closer to the mark.
