Will and Kate, One Year On: The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge's First Year Of Marriage In Pictures

The Huffington Post UK  |  Posted: Updated: 30/04/2012 08:08

Everyone knows where they were on the day of the Royal Wedding – either because they were watching on the streets or at home, or because they simply had a nice day off in the sun.

Prince William, first son of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, was probably the nation's most eligible batchelor for much of his young adulthood.

When Prince William looked to be in a solid relationship with a nice girl he'd met at St. Andrew's, millions of young girls' hearts set on Queendom dropped with a thud.

However, having then been together for roughly eight years, there was plenty of "will they, won't they?" as the public and the media alike began to wonder if the two would ever actually marry.

Then, in November 2010, they announced their marriage (and millions of young girls' hearts then plummeted ever further).

Suddenly, it was 29 April the following year, and "Waity Katie" was no more, replaced by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge – who will one day be Queen.

Since then, their lives have been a whirlwind of royal visits, appearances, charity events and helicopter-piloting jaunts for the RAF (at least for Prince William).

The Duchess has become a patron to a number of charities and has represented the royal family on both international and domestic visits.

She has also become a media darling/obsession, gracing the cover of a glossy issue of Ok! or Hello! every single fortnight, as well as inheriting the title of "fashion icon".

It is clear that the couple will be one of the most loved of all time for the rest of their public lives.

Right now, we'll have to make do with looking back at the best pictures of the two together from the first year of their marriage.

I think Kate is beautiful. Good luck to both of them, can't wait to see royal babies. Not into royal watching, but the Brits pull me in everytime.

Yeah, but the latest Brit Royal story everyone on the other side of the pond is talking about now is a new book that claims the Royal family has a black queen in its tree:

How cute that the Huffington Post thinks royalty watching is the major liberal pasttime. They all dream of being royalty themselves.

I agree.

It's almost as if they've got people in the media who know nothing about culture trying to promote the lie that they know everything about culture by starting at the top of culture and telling us this is the standard.

These people make one fatal flaw: culture today has nothing to do with heredity.

Go on. Look at the top of the page. See that "UK?" That means this was written for Huffington Post in the UK as in United Kingdom.

Context is key, my friend.

The number of women who desperately want to be princesses and who live vicariously through this woman is really sad.

She is so gracious and beautiful, besides being lucky,he's and a good guy. I wonder what it's like playing dress-up,getting to wear all of those uniforms and not be in a play or going to a costume party.

I still watch the all three hours of the special day every chance I get! Congrats and go on don't take to long having a child; we can't wait to see you both as parents! Life. Love. Happiness. Health!

Good heavens, has it already been a year?! Well, this young couple is definitely an excellent pair of ambassadors for the British people, and one hopes their marriage is built on a much stronger foundation than that of Charles and Diana was. Just for once though, I'd love to see a royal wedding with a dress that really looked amazing. Diana's gown was childish, and Kate's though pretty, certainly not spectacular....in keeping though, I guess, with the tough economic times, being so simple and not at all showy.

Happy aniversary to a couple with real class. They do nothing to embarras the British people. It would be so nice to have anything near it in the US. We have had nothing like it since Ronald Reagan.

Smooth. I wasn't sure how you were going to work this into a "Reagan is awesome" point, but you did it, however clumsily. Kudos.

You know, Reagan's kids are still around. I'm sure Junior would love to be an ambassador for the US. Personally, I think he'd do a fabulous job.
