A Brazilian actor has died after accidentally hanging himself while reenacting the death of Judas Iscariot in an Easter play, it was reported today.

Tiago Klimeck, 27, had been playing the part of Judas in a Passion of Christ theatrical performance in the town of Itarare, in the state of Sao Paulo, south east Brazil.

While acting the scene in which Judas commits suicide after betraying Jesus, he was supposed to 'hang himself' from a rope then pretend to be dead.

But the safety vest the actor was using under is robe is believed to have risen up around his neck, strangling him.

Mr Klimeck was left dangling for four minutes until horrified performers and spectators realised it wasn't part of his performance and rushed to his aid.

Numerous photographs of Mr Klimeck's motionless body were taken and are circulating online. Huffington Post UK has seen the images but will not be publishing them.

He remained in a critical condition in hospital for 17 days after the accident during the Good Friday open-air performance.

Scans revealed that the incident caused cerebral anoxia due to the complete lack of oxygen to the brain. The actor's life support machine was finally switched off on Sunday afternoon.

The incident is being investigated by the local police.

What's with the biased religous posts, and why do my comments keep "dissapearing"?

Maybe because you can't spell disappearing.

Yup, couldn't agree more! Unwise people fail to realise even the most plain simple obvious things! They're bound to, especially if they disapprove of the existence of God!

Are you with the Spelling Police? Or do you honestly believe that what you said was in someway an answer to my question?

One year I took a weekend job as a mall Santa Claus. That year I got NOTHING for Christmas! Was it karma, coincidence, or did I anger the real Santa? Believe me, I am much more careful when I take an acting job!

Poor man. I hope he did not suffer. Thank you The Huff for sparing us (and his memory) the sight of any ghoulish photos.

I applaud HuffPo for not posting the pictures. Unfortunately some sick people will do it anyway.

I agree Too Sad! This is hard for me to post, as my Dear, Sweet,Dad, just passed away March 6th.I am still grieving! Still wish this poor young guy, could have yelled, or tried to make a sound, to save himself. We don't know, maybe he just couldn't harness was choking him, and cut off his voice ect..Such a Trajedy! No one should ever try to hang themselves, real or not. Prayer for Him, and the Family, too young to go. GodBless Him, and May He Be In Heaven now!

While reading the article, I was wondering also, no yelling no flailing of feet or arms to indicate he was in trouble. This was a on stage performance. Don't ask me what I mean about that, but I was thinking had this been a filimg of a movie, things might have been different. The director/produces etc would have seen he was hanging longer that his 5 seconds in the scene. I want to hope they would have gotten to him before this tragedy occurred. But this was a live performance. This sad so so sad. RIP young man, God be with ur family, friends and loved one. It sounds like an instant death, no time to do anything. To instant to grab the rope or struggle, let alone yell "HELP ME" again this is truly sad.

no matter where you are or what you're doing, when God calls you home, it's your time.

You're kidding right? The man accidently hung himself, portraying Judas in a Passion of Christ, you think that was "God" calling him home?
