North Korea 'Threatens To Reduce Seoul To Ashes In Less Than Four Minutes' As Tensions Escalate

North Korea’s military has threatened to reduce South Korea’s government "to ashes" amid escalating tensions between the two countries.

A statement released via the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) threatened to “reduce all the rat-like groups and the bases for provocations to ashes in three or four minutes, (or) in much shorter time, by unprecedented peculiar means or methods of our style.”

The missive, issued by the Supreme Command of the Korean People's Army added: "Our revolutionary armed forces do not make an empty talk."

On Monday, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged North Korea to refrain from “further provocative measures”, warning such actions “will not be desirable for the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula,” AP reported.

North Korea also made threats of a “sacred war” following the South’s deployment of new long-range cruise missiles and alluded to perceived insults made against the “dignity of our supreme leadership.”

The statement added: "The indignation of the army and people of the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) at the group of rat-like (South Korean President) Lee Myung Bak is running high.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is emulating his late father's 'military first' policy

"Shouts such as 'Destroy,' 'Beat to death' and 'Tear to death' are ringing out on this land. But the Lee group of traitors is still doing mischiefs, not coming to its senses."

A Seoul spokesman said: “We express deep concern that the North’s threats and accusations have worsened inter-Korean ties and heightened tensions.”

A further statement issued via KCNA on behalf of the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea, accused Myung Bak of “seriously hurting the dignity of the supreme leadership” of the North.

It added: “The mischief made by rat-like Lee Myung Bak against them reminds one of a rabid dog barking towards the sky. What Lee uttered is no more than squeaks made by the rat before being killed by all people for its wrong doings.

“Now the army and people of the DPRK are shaking with towering indignation and anger and their resolution to wipe out the Lee group is running high.

“The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK have already declared their special actions.

“The army and people of the DPRK will make rat-like Lee and his group meet the most miserable and disgraceful end for doing such mischief in rat holes as defaming the sun.”

The spat comes as Kim Jong Un takes steps to emulate his late father’s “military first” policy, with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the North Korean army taking place on Wednesday .

It also raises fears North Korea may be planning another provocation in the wake of its unsuccessful rocket launch earlier this month.

Two minutes after lift-off, the Unha-3 rocket reportedly exploded in flight and plunged into the Yellow Sea between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula.

Despite the failure, the launch drew international condemnation amid accusations from Washington, Tokyo and Seoul that the rocket, supposedly built to put a weather satellite in orbit, was in fact a ballistic missile test.

G8 foreign ministers meeting in Washington released a statement accusing the regime of violating UN Security Council resolutions.

The statement also called on the country to abandon its nuclear weapons and its "existing nuclear and ballistic missile programmes".

The South provoked the North's peculiar outburst by deploying long range cruise missiles supplied by the United States. This was done to bolster the South's military for when United States troops are eventually withdrawn. They wont stop an invasion by the North, but may slow it down a bit, so surrender talks, oops sorry negotiations, can take place at the UN. Fat-Boy is about to get fatter.

Going by the relyability of their rockets they probibly destroy themselves in under a minute, and not be missed by the rest of the mankind the world would be a better place without them!

What planet are these clowns on? How are they going to inflict damage, fire lots of lighted matches at the south? Their last rocket lasted seconds, more likly to blow up their own country! The new leader "Pick and mix" or whatever he is called had the perfect chance to have a fresh start and open up the country but chose not to do so,blown it now I feel!.

Hahahahahaha. Yeah. I don't think it will be with a rocket. Maybe they should stick to what they're good at. mmm, that will be 'nothing'.

I think the significant word here is 'peculiar'. The military might of North Korea in terms of numbers may outnumber the rest of the world, however, lets be realistic. This is a country which in terms of military development hasn't progressed too much from the end of the Cold War. They can't get a rocket to fly for 10 seconds, how will they decimate an entire country?

For those who are now championing this 'WW3' idea, lets again be realistic. China, while not actively opposed to N.Korea wouldn't want this type of trouble in their backyard. They have enough troubles of their own. If North Korea acts aggresively towards South Korea, Japan or any other country they view as 'rats' instead of just postering and shaking their malnornished fists at the DMZ, China isn't going to try and protect it. Give the Chinese government credit.

Third, for those who say 'nuke them' or 'let them nuke each other'. Do not throw away human life so needlessly. Those weapons should never ever be used again for the sake of not only of your life but the lives of every single person on this planet. That technology is dangerous.

let them nuke each other I say, as long as the cloud doesn't blow this way

The media just loves to taunt North Korea don't they?

People forget Korea was one country before the Korean War in the 1950's. There are still families who ended up on different sides of the border who haven't seen each other since then.
The reason that country's so messed up is the tactics the US used during that war. 80% of the cities were reduced to rubble. Tey bombed the major power stations, which still haven't been rebuilt. They even deliberately bombed the damns in order to flood the rice paddies - leading to the mass starvation we still see today.

This is a sick country - what would actually help this situation would be to stop provoking and mocking them, and try to help them.

There is some 28,000 US personnel in South Korea. For any US President not to respond to the death of so many US nationals is unthinkable. I don't think China would get involved if the USA were seeking revenge.

Reform in North Korea, if it happens, must involve changing the way they view outsiders. Right now South Koreans enjoy a standard of living that is well over 15 times higher than their North Korean neighbors. This difference is due almost entirely to economic policy; the South is open to the world with free flows of capital, goods, and even workers. The North is closed to even its closest ally, China, and exports little (almost all of its imports are in the form of humanitarian aid).

North Korea has a long, long road ahead if it is ever to catch up with South Korea and the path looks daunting and with mad general in charge war is a real possibilty which for its people could be the best long term solution, as it wopuld loose and its people gain fredom?

North Korea 'Threatens To Reduce Seoul To Ashes In Less Than Four Minutes' As Tensions Escalate

They will not do this, as the N.Korean military knows as soon as they push that button, that button will become a self destruct button.

South Korea, helped by the US, will throw everything they have at them destroying most of N.Korea.
